Fed up and found a way to do this:

* open the printer dialog box
* open folder with documents
* select the documents, and drag to the printer dialog box

Yes, word will open every one, but you can walk away and do work while they print.

Thank You MS for making this SOOOOOO easy to do...hell with the right click method we use to do...it's much more efficient to open the printer window today. /sarcasm

Hi Johnmackall, Your explanation was great and I have been using this method for some time however I find that when I use it all my documents print in random order. I would really like them to print them in filename order (the way they appear sorted in my directory). Any thoughts on how I might be able to acheive this? Thanks, Diana.

people people people! tssk tssk! relax! take a deep breath and follow these steps:

for Word 2007 :

1) before starting, go to Start Menu, Settings, Printers and right-click on the desired printer and choose as default printer
2) open Word program (no need to open a doc file, a blank file is fine)
3) click on the Office Button (top left circle with Office logo)
4) click on Open (a little window will pop up)
5) go to the folder or wherever the Word files are and select them all
6) at the bottom left corner of the Open window, click on Tools button
7) click on Print

and voilà! all the selected files will print without having Word opening them all!

you are welcome!

This works great in Word 2003. I use it to print 50 to 100 document without lifting a finger. This function does not work well in 2007 for .doc file, it totaly ignores those files. Can anyone help me with this.

No, I need to collate the docs which means having the printer properties box open. So this doesn't help. BTW, the Master Documents won't work with multiple tabled pages eiether.
