Change Datastream Package to a Directory-Based One

These commands show how to convert between the datastream and file system formats.

The Solaris package commands use two different package formats. The datastream format use a single self contained file which includes the binaries and configurations. The second format is the file system format which contains the same information in hierarchical directory structures instead.

The pkgtrans utility allows the user to change between these formats. In general these are the commands that converts between the two:

Users should use a command like this to convert over to a file based system:
pkgtrans ntp-4.1.1a-sol8-sparc-local /tmp all

Conversely, pkgtrans -s converts from file system to data stream.
