Entourage 2008: Download Pictures Automatically

By default, Entourage prevents the automatic download of pictures in email messages as a security measure to help prevent possible spamming. You can either have it download images in all messages or only in messages sent from your Address Book contacts.

1. Open Entourage 2008.

2. Use the Apple menu to select Preferences.

3. Go to the left pane, under General Preferences and select Security.

4. Go to the Download pictures section and use the radio buttons to choose either In all messages or In messages sent from Address Book contacts.

5. Click the OK button.

Is that new, or was that an option in Entourage 2004? Don’t recall seeing that option before.

Seems new, I have 2004 and you can’t allow from all, only from contacts.

Thx for the solution… I’ve been searching a long time in Entourage but didn’t notice this option.

Thank you very much! This was helpful. But when I opened emails in Entourage, it used to ask me if I wanted to download images, but I don’t see this now…any thoughts on that?

agree i don’t see this anymore either.

The “download images” tag has disappeared for me also. I think it happened when I installed the most resent software update from Microsoft.

Shamanstears: What happened to the “download photos” tag in Entourage email messages? Did Mac eliminate that security for us Office 2008 Mac users with this new 12.2.7 update? Your reply say two options only: all or none when it comes to downloading email photos. Thanks!

Exactly the same for me….after the latest 12.2.7 update the “download images” link has disappeared, leaving the only choices being to “download always” or “never” or “only for contacts.” Doesn’t seem the safest way to proceed!

Seems to be that Download Images comes up only the first time you view a message. If you don’t Download Images and go back to it, then the option has disappeared. And yes seems to have occurred in the last update.

Perfect advice, it worked, thanks so much!

Same here. 12.2.7 update removed the “download images” link. I’m not ever seeing it (first time, or subsequent views of a message). This seems to be a useable workaround, but MS needs to fix the actual problem.

This is my experience, and it is an extremely annoying problem. The short story is: it definitely gives you only once chance to download pictures, and I’m not even sure it always gives you that first chance.

Of the five emails with pictures I got so far today, one downloaded them without asking (I have that person in my contacts list), one asked me if I wanted to download them, and the rest did not even ask. I cannot find any way to force it to download them.

When I went through older messages that were in my inbox from before I installed the 12.2.7 update (which I installed a few days ago) some gave me the option and some didn’t. When I went back to those that did, they no longer gave me the option. As near as I can tell, it remembers–even before the update was installed–which messages I viewed and then marked as unread and which I didn’t view at all. If I don’t click on “download pictures” the first time, it goes away. And I’m not convinced it even gives me the option the first time in every case.

After a quick Internet search, I just wanted to add that those of us who are not experiencing the following should be grateful:

    Entourage crashes unexpectedly
    You can not open/read emails
    Emails and other items disappear
Entourage prompts to enter password again and again
(I used to have a problem with this under 12.2.6, but the problem magically disappeared.)

Apparently, if the only problem we’re having is not being asked to download pictures, we’re in good shape. The 12.2.7 update has pretty much ruined Entourage for many users. Search “12.2.7 Entourage problems” for more info.

Hi, me again, and this time with a solution that I’ve tried and gotten to work. If you use the read-delay option in Preferences, you can fool the “Download pictures” option into appearing. It only gives you one chance before you have to redo the procedure to fool it again.

If what I just said is confusing, check out this site where I got the idea. People commenting on the site offered a few more as well:

Same here also: had “download images” link until installed update 12.2.7; thanks for the workaround.

I find that I can USUALLY download pictures while the email is in the PREVIEW pane but not when I fully open it.
