By using a qualifier, you can make Spotlight return more specific search results. This can be a real time saver when searching for emails, images, folders or even applications.

By using the qualifier kind: and adding a type, you can get more specific results.

The types include the following: image, movie, music, app, contact, folder, email, event, todo, audio, pdf, preferences, bookmark, fonts, and presentations.

For example, if you were searching for an application, but couldn't quite remember the name, you could use the following:

1. Press the Command Key+spacebar to bring up Spotlight.

2. Input the first letter that you think the application begins with. After that, input kind:app.

Your list will now only contain applications, making it easier to find what you are looking for.
