But, we can have our cake and eat it too. Change the setting and use Alt+Enter to display the search result in your current tab.

I don’t get it. Tip does not do it in Firefox 3.5.1. – even though the about:config entry mentioned here is at “true” using the search bar always replaces the current tab’s contents.

Anonymous (1), it ’s not simple really. The negative part is you’ll have to use Alt+Enter every time. The tip at the top is better.

..or you can install google toolbar, then change the settings to open search in new tab :)
