I don't get it. Tip does not do it in Firefox 3.5.1. – even though the about:config entry mentioned here is at “true” using the search bar always replaces the current tab's contents.

Anonymous (1), it 's not simple really. The negative part is you'll have to use Alt+Enter every time. The tip at the top is better.

..or you can install google toolbar, then change the settings to open search in new tab :)

And for those who like simplicity: use Alt+Enter instead of Enter when you search to have search results appear in a new tab.

Pros:
- you control when FF opens a new tab; sometimes reusing an open tab is desirable
- simplicity

Cons:
I don’t see any – do you?
