Much of Vista's bloat comes from the Aero interface. By turning off some of these features, the user can improve the performance of the system.

1. Open the control panel
2. In Classic View, open up System
3. In the left panel, click Advanced System Settings (Requires Administrator privileges)

4. In the Advanced tab, there should be a box named Performance. Click the Settings... button

5. In the Visual Effects tab, there is a list of effects used by Vista. Disable or enable these settings to your liking.
