A hardware profile is a great way to uncover what’s under the hood of your system without having to crack open the case. By utilizing a terminal command, you can easily generate a hardware profile for your computer to print out or save for future reference.

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Execute the following command:sudo lshw -html > hardwareprofile.html

3. Close the terminal window when the command has finished.

4. Go to the Main Menu, click Places and select Home Folder. Locate the generated html file (hardwareprofile.html) containing your hardware profile and open it. The generated report gives you a detailed look at the hardware on your system.

I tried this, and found that the generated profile was empty. Still using Fiesty Fawn. Any ideas?

take note you need to change the ownership of the file since it is owned by root.
