Server: Ubuntu 9.0.4 32bit/64bit or I am willing to try other flavor’s I have already tried FreeBSD and didn’t understand it, ran for a long time though never ran it with the full GUI just verbose mode which was frustrating when you really can’t navigate the command line.

I am a newbie and getting my first domain name soon, I also got software were the developer needs the MySQL/PHP log in information and cPanel log in information, except I don’t have cPanel, I was thinking of just installing Webmin with all the trimmings. I also wanted to install the server with the basic necessities nothing that’s over kill no games ect just a full fledged server.

Is there a recipe that I can paste in the Ubuntu terminal to do this?

I would like to install everything from source if that is possible, if not then apt-get or any way possible I really need to set this server up right were it can go at lightning speeds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome, thanks for that! I installed KDE to try it (10 years since I’d last used it) and all the KDE applications were made default under Gnome.

I think I’ll stick with Gnome, it was much much faster on a high spec box than KDE.

I tried the command by simply copy and paste and following error generated ….. before this command i also tried apt-get remove kde-desktop

Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
Note, selecting libfftw3-3 instead of fftw3
E: Couldn’t find package hwdb-client-kde
