iPod: Device Temperature and Thermometer

I know you NEVER thought you could use your iPod as a thermometer, am I right? Well, you can… kinda! The iPod has an internal thermometer to detect the temperature of the hard drive. How hot is your iPod running?

The temperature inside your iPod is dependent on many things. The hard drive spinning and the external temperature are the two major contributors. What is your iPod’s temp?

1. Go into diagnostics mode.

2. Go to the manual tests by clicking the Menu button.

3. Scroll to IO > HardDrive > HDSpecs

My iPod typically reports about 7C over what the external ambient temperature is. That number obviously is much higher after a lot of continuous music playing.
