If you would rather not have to see the OpenOffice.org splash screen each and every time you run the application, and would like to speed up the startup just a bit, then follow these steps to get around it:

1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the installation directory for OpenOffice (for example C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.1).

2. Open the program directory.

3. Locate soffice.ini and open it in Notepad.

4. Beneath [Bootstrap], change the value for Logo = from 1 to 0.

5. Save soffice.ini.

6. Close Notepad.

7. Restart OpenOffice.org.

Great tip! I’m installing Go-oo on a computer for someone because it has more features than the normal OpenOffice.org, such as the ability to use .svg graphics and open Works files (.wps). The only problem is, a splash screen that says anything other than just “OpenOffice.org” might raise questions or confuse a computer novice. By disabling the splash screen, the program just works for them, without showing any company or version information.
