If you have used the Disk Cleanup Utility and utilized it to clear the hibernation file, you may be surprised to find that the Hibernate option is no longer available. You can restore the hibernate option by following these instructions:

1. Click the Start button.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select Accessories.

4. Right-click on Command Prompt.

5. Select Run as Administrator.

6. When the UAC prompt appears, click Continue.

7. Type powercfg /hibernate on and press Enter on your keyboard.

8. Close the Command Prompt window.

9. Reboot your PC.

Didn’t work. Got the following message:

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
The system could not create the hibernation file. The specific error code is 0xc000007f.

I have to say, for those of you that can’t get this to work, it has to be another problem in your pc, It’s does work very easy. I was given the same command with a professional tech and just followed the same protocal and I’m back in Hibernate mode again, just make sure you right click ‘command prompt’, it won’t work if you don’t. thanks again

the command i had to use was “POWERCFG -H ON”
otherwise it said “Invalid Parameters — try “/?” for help” using the syntax suggested here

This puts the hibernate button back, but when I click hibernate, it goes actually does something more like restart. It doesn’t shut down properly or save open programs, and when it comes back on it goes into recovery mode first.

    FOR THOSE HAVING ISSUES:

Make sure you right click “command prompt” and select “run as administrator”.

    I had to type:
    powercfg /hibernate on

to make it work (the added “on” made all the difference).

Thanks to the poster, this was very helpful!!
