Vista: Disable Clicking Sound

Do you just hate that annoying clicking sound you get out of vista or xp and IE everytime you click anything in IE or windows explorer? me too, lets get rid of that! This is a very simple but useful recipe. I wish MS would not have a stupid sound event set for this by default, oh well. Plus, it gets annoying if your like me and have a nice speaker system for your PC thats jacked up for video/music.

With Windows XP and now Vista, Microsoft by default has the OS make a sound each time you ‘start navigation’. This can be opening a folder in windows explorer to clicking on a link in IE. After about an hour, I get very tired of the noise. Lets disable that annoying sound!

1. Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices

2. Then click on the Sounds tab.

3. You can either click the Sound Scheme and change it to No Sounds or you can do what i like to do and just change the sound for “Start Navigation” to “(none)”

Go down the list to the “Windows Explorer” section, and click “Start Navigation“.

Now under where it says Sounds: and has a drop down, click it and choose the very top option: (None)

Click Apply and OK and voila! No more annoying clicks while surfing or in windows explorer!
