Vista: Clock, Network, Volume, Power — Display or Hide from System Tray
The clock, the current volume, the network status, and the power plan all can be displayed or hidden in Vista’s system tray. Here are the steps to do it.
I like all of these notifications enabled in my system tray; however, many people hate them. Certainly, many people will have a reason to hide some of them. For example, if you are not using a laptop, then it is silly to have the power plan displayed.
Here is how to show or hide these notifications in Vista:
1. Click on a blank area of the taskbar or the start orb
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Notification Area tab
4. Under system icons, select the ones you want to be displayed.
5. Then click OK

That was easy! No matter what registry hacks I try, I cannot get my clock to sync with the Internet time servers regularly, and so it’s always wrong – turned it off – nice!
