XP: In explorer why are some filenames and folders blue?

When browsing through your computer, you notice that some files and folders are now in a blue font instead of the typical black font. What causes this?

Here is an example of what you might be seeing…

xp_compressed

See how the ztemp folder and 123temp file are blue?

This has most likely happened because you have enabled compression on these files/folders.

If you do not want compression…

– Right-click the file/folder
– Select Properties from the context menu
– Click the Advanced button
– Unclick Compress contents to save disk space

Thanks for the quick and efficient answer and solution. I am preferring web versus Microsoft when it comes to questions and solutions.
