WMP 10: Prevent Saving of File and URL History in Windows Media Player

Posted January 12, 2007 by MickeyMouse in Windows

Another way to protect your privacy with WMP 10 is to prevent the media player from saving your file and URL history. This prevents the user from needing to purge the history files.

No history is good history. Am I talking about girls or internet privacy? Who knows…

Windows Media Player (WMP) will save a list of your recently opened files and URLs. Anybody opening WMP can see this list. It is not difficult to clear the list, but why not prevent the list from ever forming?

1. Open WMP 10
2. Click Tools menu and select Options
3. Click the Privacy tab
4. Unclick Save File and URL history in the Player
5. Click OK
