Vista: Copy Path of File or Folder

Posted December 24, 2006 by Hack_Vista in Microsoft Vista

One of vista’s new features is the ability to quickly copy a file or folder by it’s path. Here is how to do it.

Oh, Vista. You try so hard. Here is one of your sweet new features.

To get the path in XP, the user would have to right-click the file/folder, select properties, and copy somethingoranother. Little painful. Now, it is much easier in Vista.

To Copy the Path of a File or Folder in Vista:
1. Browse to the file or folder in question
2. Hold Shift and Right-Click the file/folder
3. Select Copy as Path
4. Now the path will be in your clipboard. You may paste this text into whatever you wish.

Here is my copying to a path the vista show desktop icon…

This yields the following text…

“C:\Users\Hack Vista\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk”
