How To Terminate a Cable (CAT5e and CAT6)

Hold a cable locking tab down with the contacts facing you and connector pointing away from you. The contacts are numbered 1-8 from left to right.
There are two different methods that can be used to terminate the cable:

EIA/TIA-568A:
Pin 1: White/Green
Pin 2: Green/White (or Green)
Pin 3: White/Orange
Pin 4: Blue/White (or Blue)
Pin 5: White/Blue
Pin 6: Orange/White (or Orange)
Pin 7: White/Brown
Pin 8: Brown/White (or Brown)

EIA/TIA-568B:
Pin 1: White/Orange
Pin 2: Orange/White (or Orange)
Pin 3: White/Green
Pin 4: Blue/White (or Blue)
Pin 5: White/Blue
Pin 6: Green/White (or Green)
Pin 7: White/Brown
Pin 8: Brown/White (or Brown)

568A and 568B may be used interchangeably in your network but you must terminate both ends of any given cable the same way.
