If you would rather not have to see the Word splash screen each and every time you run the application, follow this tech-recipe to disable it:

1. Right-click on the desktop.

2. Click New and select Shortcut.

3. Click the Browse button and go to the Word executable (“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE”).

4. After the full path and the end quotes, add one space and type in /q.

5. Click Next.

6. Type a name for the shortcut.

7. Click Finish.

Works great, but don’t do it in a school environmaent. The autor of all documents will be “intall.” Makes it harder to catch cheaters. It didn’t work so well for me.
