XP: Decrease IE6 and IE7 Temporary Internet Files Storage

Posted September 21, 2006 by mikejc in Windows

By default, IE will take a large amount of disk space for temporary internet file storage. Here is how to reduce the amount.

These steps will work for both IE6 and IE7.

1. Open IE.
2. Click the Tools menu.
3. Select Internet Options.
4. Click the General tab.
5. IE6: In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
IE7: In the Browsing history section, click Settings.
6. In the Amount of disk space to use option, decrease the amount. Many people feel that there is no need to use a space larger than 10MB, for example.
7. Click Ok.
