Remove QuickTime Icon from the Windows System Tray

Posted September 17, 2006 by MickeyMouse in Windows

Programs that needlessly install themselves into the Windows system tray are really annoying. QuickTime has recently appeared again after I installed iTunes. Here is how to get rid of that blue Q that is just taking up space.

Removing QuickTime from your system tray is easy. Use the steps below:

1. Right-click on the QuickTime icon in the system tray.
2. Select QuickTime Preferences.

3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Uncheck Install QuickTime icon in system tray.
5. Click OK.

The icon will immediately disappear. This will not change your ability to play QuickTime files or use iTunes.
