After starting a profile on myspace, it can be difficult to figure out how to enable the additional band profile features. Following this URL will convert your profile into a band profile.

When I first signed up for myspace, I never thought that I would actually want to put some of my personal music there. However, now many of my friends have been begging to hear some of my tunes.

How do I change my personal profile into a band profile?

Just log into myspace and then click on this link:

http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=BandProfile.convert

You will immediately see the band-related options.

Sweet, huh?

I tried your tip, but the changes never seemed to take effect. it warned me that it would take up to 24 hours, but nothing ever happened. am i missing something?
    thanks so much!
  • Anonymous
Same thing for me. None of the changes took effect. Anyone know why?

    Thanx - gaRr

The technique does not seem to be working as well as it previously was. Contacting customer support through myspace will work.

Of course, you always have the option to delete your myspace account and start anew.

yeah same here when i go to http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction... all it does is takes me to http://editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac... and i put some information and preview and submit and it still doesn't appear on my page.. anyone please help me it will be appreciated!!! thanks yall

    try

    http://editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac...

but add the mytoken data from your current session (just login to myspace, click to edit your profile and then copy the code from the end of that URL)

these might work also, but be warned, I think you can only convert once and then you can't convert back....

    To Film Maker:
    http://editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac...

    To Comedian:
    http://editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac...

but be warned, I think you can only convert once and then you can't convert back....

The Convert 2 band link doesnt work.... Did it work 4 u? wat do i do?

This method is working on myspace today as long as you follow the instructions properly
    - don't just click the link above
    - copy it into your browser
    - BUT add the mytoken data from <span style="text-decoration:underline">your</span> current session
    - (just login to myspace, click to edit your profile and then copy the code from the end of that URL)

eg: your token bit looks like this:

    <font color="red">MyToken=234ab1cd-5678-321b-8st9-44a12qwe4r06</font>

so the complete URL might be:

    <font color="blue">editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=BandProfile.convert&</font><font color="red"><span style="text-decoration:underline">MyToken=234ab1cd-5678-321b-8st9-44a12qwe4r06</span></font>
but be warned, I think you can only convert once and then you can't convert back..

    Hi wert

Really hoping I can get your method to work. I've copied and pasted your link and added the token string from my existing session, but it's just not having it.

It looks like it's gonna work, the Edit "Band Profile >> Edit Band Bio" page opens, but no changes I make in there make any difference, they don't even get saved. If I go to the Basic Profile tab, the options in there are grayed out and nothing's selectable.

I think the first thing that should happen is some text should display warning that the change to a band profile is irreversible which I have to accept- that's the stage that isn't happening.

Anything else you can think of to try?

    Thanx :)

Yes, it should ask you to confirm that you want to convert...

It is not working right now.
I don't know what to suggest. This worked on a dummy account i created last week. And again earlier today on another one. The Filmaker and Comedy ones are working at the moment but not the Band one. I can only assume that Myspace have changed one of the Coldfusion back end files.

If I find a new URL that does it I'll certainly post it.

    Sorry !

Ok, so I played around a bit more. Made up a pair of profiles and tried to convert them.
I Did manage to convert one using this method below - but only one.
What I mean is I created two new normal profiles tonight - one has converted and the other hasn't... I don't know why but I am sure i did the same both times but now I am getting too frustrated to try again - so by all means try the following but no guarantees...

Ok, this is a bit more complicated, please read it all carefully and remember i had one success and one failure with this method...
Maybe you can create a test profile yourself so you don't mess up your actual profile...

    Method:
Okay, so you have a normal, non-music, non-comedy, non filmmaker profile.

    Click to edit your profile.

the URL in the address bar is like:

    profileedit.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=profile.interests&MyToken=234ab1cd-5678-321b-8st9-44a12qwe4r06

now paste this into notepad (I know we don't want a comedian profile - read all of this before you do anything!!!)

    <font color="blue">collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=comedian.convert&Mytoken=</font>

and add the Mytoken data from the URL

    <font color="red">234ab1cd-5678-321b-8st9-44a12qwe4r06</font>

    making

    <font color="blue">collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=comedian.convert&Mytoken=</font><font color="red">234ab1cd-5678-321b-8st9-44a12qwe4r06</font>

put that back into the browser address bar

this will take you to a page with a question,
Do you want to convert your profile to a comedian profile?

BE CAREFUL HERE.... Don't CLICK THE LINKS

If you carefully put the cursor over the
[Yes, convert it to a comedian profile]

You will see the target URL in your status bar. The bit we need from the target URL is the long long long HASH code....

I suggest you RIGHT CLICK (carefully) the YES link and choose
    Copy Link Location
    or
    Copy Shortcut
or Whatever your browser has as the option to copy the URL of a link...

Paste the URL from this link into Notepad... it will look a bit like this:

    <font color="blue">collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=comedian.convertProcess&hash=</font><font color="red">d2d92eb96ffa2135ad0%471e5e520HELc46BIGf44aASS0569931b41774b039baef181f6dc7a2a551a6458a8de22446cc76d57ea84c455b04a1d307d4ac33049dd2d92eb96ffa2135ad0471e5e520c46f44a0569931%b4</font>

OK so far? Ok. We need to change a little bit in the middle:

    Where it says

    <font color="red">fuseaction=comedian.convertProcess</font>

    we will change it to

    <font color="blue">fuseaction=BandProfile.convertProcess</font>

    so it will now say

    <font color="red">collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?</font><font color="blue">fuseaction=BandProfile.convertProcess</font><font color="red">&hash=d2d92eb96ffa2135ad0%471e5e520HELc46BIGf44aASS0569931b41774b039baef181f6dc7a2a551a6458a8de22446cc76d57ea84c455b04a1d307d4ac33049dd2d92eb96ffa2135ad0471e5e520c46f44a0569931%b4</font>

This is the URL to put back into your browser.

<font color="green">Obviously the HASH code has to be the one created in your browser while you are logged on - the code shown here is just made up and will not work so try to do as I have suggested</font>

If you have followed it as above you will go to the page where you can update the band bio info - as seen before - still no prompt as you've just hacked the comedy prompt page - but now if you click View Profile you should hopefully see the Myspace Music bar is now on your profile as it is now a music profile...

Hope that works for some of you. Personally I think Myspace is just buggy.

hey thanks for this great topic! i followed the instructions faithfully but when I got to the upload songs it said i'd uploaded the maximum # of songs and that there were no songs uploaded. So clearly i'm not getting band privileges. I did it with a test site like you suggested. any other help would be appreciated - but yeah myspace is very very annoying on this - i can't understand why they make it so difficult.
  • Anonymous
 I've seen a number of posts on this...and have tried it both with, and without, the token and with the Comedian convert hack, etc. The Music template looks like it's there...but it doesn't actually convert...the Manage Songs page, as others have reported - keeps coming up saying it's full and doesn't allow anything to be uploaded...and then the page reverts.

I have three musician friends that need this fix badly...if anyone gets it...please let me know!!! Thanks!

    my last post on
    Thu Oct 12, 2006 11:41 am
was nonsense. just realised what i've done. sorry about that.

while testing our different ideas with a couple of accounts i had a few browsers open and i thought i had converted a non music profile when in fact i was looking at a dummy band profile i had created as such.

    sorry about that :(

but i did convert an account last week with the other method above. its obvious that myspace have changed or disabled the bandprofile.convert script for some reason.
  • Anonymous
    So which one worked?
  • Anonymous
It seems MySpace shut off this conversion script, forcing anyone wanting a band site to get a new one...ugh.
  • Anonymous
Can some please tell me how to change from band profile to normal? thnx

Sorry...never seen a way to go back, and actually MySpace, when the band convert script was active, said you could not.
  • Anonymous
Someone knows how to change a band profile to a personal profile? yeah, fusion07 have said it cannot be but if someone else knows something, i'm waiting! please! :P any information is welcome!
  • Anonymous
I got this message from myspace when asking them about it...

    <ul id="quote">
If you have created a personal user page in error and would like to convert to a band page:

    1) Click on the following web link,
    http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Ban...

    2) Logon as requested with your email address and password in the fields provided.

    3) Read the information listed and click the Convert Me button to make the change.

    Sincerely,

    MySpace.com Customer Support Team

    That's from myspace</ul>

The only problem is, as to why this link we are all using isnt working is.... Their is no fukin convert me button :(

Anymore help from anyone who maybe has managed to contact tom would be most appriciated, Maybe we should all message him at once to get away from counting his cash and get it sorted!

ok,go to a band porfile..any kind....then it says myspace music ok?,ok go to the very last 1 that says artist signup...make an account and it's a band 1...ok...ur welcome! :P
  • Anonymous
I tried it, searched all over the web and found many people having the same problem. aparently this may have worked at some point but I believe they took away the feature because it would conflict with the feature for people who don't accept bands as friends. If you are someones friend who doesn't want band friends and you convert, well there's the problem.
    my2c

It seems the only way is to cancel and recreate your profile.
you have to reconnect with your contacts from scratch so save or print your friends page

    good luck
my new page (my old page links to the new, best of both worlds i guess)
    http://www.myspace.com/gluttonchops
and since I now have a band page, my old page has a song on it from the band page and the default on the band page is diferent from the song on my old page.
  • Anonymous
i'm in the same boat. i tried the simple way out and just deleting accounts to rebuild them, but haven't been able to get them to actually cancel my account so far. some of my friends told me it took up to a year to get myspace to delete some of their accounts, if they were ever cancelled at all.

i've tried everything above, including trying to contact myspace (if you know how to get their attention, please let me know!) but i'm still at a loss. it's too bad when you sign up for a normal account you're told you can upload music and videos, but they neglect to say you can't upload your OWN until after you're signed up!

if anyone finds a way that works, PLEASE let us know - thanks!
