Palm: Free AIM Clients and Options

Many people on the web do not believe that you can do AIM on your palm system for free. I have found free options that most people do not know about.


I recently received a palm TX from work. Typically I have not liked any handhelds in the past, but the wifi on this one has me sold. So many free wifi hotspots exist now that this has become a very useful and cheap way to communicate.

I started searching for AIM clients and was shocked that nobody had found any free options. Well, I have found three. If you have others to add to the list, please drop a comment below.

Free Palm AIM clients:

    1. Aol.co.uk – Although the US web site sells the palm AIM client, you can download the uk AIM client for free. It’s in english and works great!

    2. Toccer – This free client is probably the most well known free client. Many people have noted a bunch of lock-ups with it. Development continues and is very active.

    3. Web-Based Mobile AIM – AOL has released a web-based mobile client. Although the URL suggests that it is for Sprint only, it’ll work from any browser including blazer. Make sure you get the URL correct including case and symbols:
    http://wim2.aol.com/?service=Sprint3G

Certainly there are better and more expensive options; however, these are excellent small tools to have on any palm system.

    I've downloaded the UK AIM client and it lets me online with no problem (on my Palm TX), but it doesn't show mu buddy list - anyone else have the same problem?
  • yes, the UK AIM client doesn't work, i will connect, and show my status of being online, but no buddy list, and can not receive messages or anything.

    Download the Toccer that works very very well. I am using on daily basis and never frooze, upto date and everything...
