MySpace: Hack to Dowload Any Song on Myspace

MySpace allows you to listen to a lot of songs; however, only a few of them can be downloaded. This little work-around will allow you to download most music files.

Mysace allows you to listen to a lot of music, but they only allow you to dowload a select few of the songs. Here is the work around.

1. Goto the Mysace site that you want to download the music from
2. That page must have at least one song available for download
3. Open notepad
4. Right-click the download link and select copy Link
5. Paste this link into your notepad

You see something like this:

OldSongNumberHere

Title of the Old Song Here

bandid

6. Right-click the add link and select copy link
7. Paste this into your notepad

You will see something like this:

NewSongNumber

Title of the New Song Here

8. Now in the original URL just replace the old song number and old title with the new number and title. Paste this URL into your browser and click OK.

9. After several seconds, you will be prompted to download the song.

I figured this out independently while just playing around with Mysace. In the forums Brian Berris pointed out that he figured this out first. Props to him! If I had known it, it would have saved me some time. Feel free to check out his blog for a similar version of this tutorial.

Dang...everytimes I try it...I get the same song number for both links and it comes up wiht a "file not found" mp3 to save?!?!? I've tried in both Firefox and IE and also a few different songs/bands....

Yeah...I just get "asfunction:nt_connect,1" when I copy the link location of the song name. I get "asfunction:addSong,3820349^Fuck%20It%20Man^mellowdrone" when I copy the link location of the "add" link.

All we need to do is get the XML file that the player loads and reads. The easiest way to do this is to clear your IE cache, reload the player from the band's site, and look for the XML file that gets created in your cache directory. The XML file may not be easy to spot without a clean cache directory. The file generally follows this naming convention:
MP3_XML.cfm?xmlfid=bandid&rand=xxxxxxxxxx (10 digit random number)

Cut and paste that XML file onto your desktop and open it wth Notepad.

Once you look in the XML file you will see the direct path of the mp3 song. For example: "92/12/57836332/57836332_d13db5fz.mp3" (this is an invalid link -- just an example)

After this, append that directory to http://musicstream.myspace.com and you're golden. For example, " http://musicstream.myspace.com/92/12/57836332/57836332_d13db5fz.mp3"

The streaming file is always 96kbit quality, while their downloadable songs are at 192kbit. I tested this using www.myspace.com/monstersarewaiting, since they have a song available for download. Their downloaded one is 192 and their streamed one, once I grab it using the method described, is only 96. Just an FYI!

nice looking! that sucks tho. i wonder if the artists themselves have the option of letting their users stream at 192kbps?

You can't download some songs because certain bands don't wan't people to download their music. If you like their song so much, then why don't you support their band and go buy the CD?

Well my band, for example, doesn't sell CD's, so we do make our songs availible to download. If there are any bands out there that don't let you download their songs and also dont have a CD availible, then they are just stupid, but its not a reason to steal their music. My point is i dont care if anyone steals from big bands on limewire or whatever, because they are already making millions, but most bands on myspace are really struggling to make money, and you guys have the nerve to steal their songs, i think its just wrong.

most bands, those who are signed by a very small label or not signed at all i think are just wasting their time dicking around on the internet faffing around with myspace. instead they should be doing things the old fashioned way and getting their band out there, if they really are as good as they think. putting your self all over the internet is just asking for trouble. but i really dont think the bands who really 'care about the music' really give two shits about sending music files via the internet; spreading the word should be a good thing.
there are always going to be people who make savefiles or yousendits of music, it doesnt really matter. if you are in a band and that is how you make a living, you dont have to live like a rockstar, if it puts food on the table, then dont complain.

this debate could go on for all eternity.

but what i was really trying to say in the first place was;
ok theres a small band.
they have no ep or cd or downloadable files so they arnt actually making money from what they do.
i want their songs.
what happens next?

Well faded and shutup i agree with both of you in ways.
But posting your band on the internet could help. I disagree with shutup about that. MySpace is so huge now that the owner has forked over millions of dollars in cash. It could be one of the best things you could do for your band.
But I do agree that posting the songs for download is a good idea. I mean, where are you without word of mouth right? And word of mouth comes from loyal listeners.

And as for faded I agree that the pirating and illegal downloading of music IS wrong. But lets not fool ourselves. We ALL do it. One way or another somebody will find a way to get songs/movies and post them all over the internet. And you and I both take advantage of that in one way or another.

But how about getting back to the topic of finding a way to get those myspace songs? Anyone have ideas?

I tried to extract audio using Brian's method, but what happens if none of the links work (ie. download and add buttons arent functional). What happens then? How is the audio file downloaded?

All of the options are greyed out...

And I really want this song as It was one I helped record, and it isn't even a real band, but the guy won't send me the song :[

Using Ethereal (as people previously did) I saw where it was streaming from.
myspaceflash.vitalstreamcdn.com was the correct server name.
Using the XML file I obtained the directories and subdirectories of whatever songs I was looking for.
You had the server and directory so what's the problem?
The protocol is RTMP.
RTMP is the protocol because Ethereal displays 1935 as the port and Adobe/Macromedia tells you what port 1935 means here:

Post on forums asking for help from people who know ActionScript. In the mean time, I'll do the same. Also, I'll start learning AS and try to write everyone a program that can rip the file upon URL request. I'm dedicated.

A program has been written to download any mp3 from any myspace artist. Figuring out the RTMP protocol wouldn't be worth it.

well anyway i tried that old method and yea..dont work, but i noticed 1 thing!

ok i found u can get the BAND id by going to there actually profile, and where it says RATE near add friends, at the bottom of the screen where it gives info it would have a number EG 577812 or something, copy and pasted that in place of the original band id number, then for song id, i copyd link to where it says ADD on the flash player and pasted it in notepad the copyed the 8 digit number it gave from there and pasted it in2 where it says SONG ID ...but this is where im stuck! the very end, where it says &name= it has what looks like the band id then some extra letters or numbers, i cant figure out what these are, if any1 could help we could try this method out and see if it works, ill put sum examples up of what ive dones so far

You should use http://mediaservices.myspace.com/services/media... band ID]. Than an xml document comes up. find the title of the song(press ctrl+f for find, type in the title of the song and bingo its found)
underneath it, do ctrl+f to find "durl" without quotations, and the url should end with .mp3. This is the download link, but it said for me that an error occurred in the plugin...Hope u can download songs with this! :D

Can't downloading be legally done?
