XP: Disable all Balloon Tips, Including Passport and Messenger

Posted December 6, 2005 by MickeyMouse in Windows

Windows displays pop-up balloon tips for various reasons all around the screen. Most advanced users do not find these useful. The following tutorial explains how to remove them once and for all.

Removing tip balloons is a common request, but it is not easily done. Many tech-recipes already exist on this topic on this website.

XP: Disable Reminder Balloon to Create Passport Account . This registry hack will work for Passport only.

XP: Turn Off Pop-Up Balloons and Descriptions. This was my original tutorial on this subject, and it is the one that everyone should try first. However, as the comments of that post suggest, it does not work for all programs at all times.

This registry hack is more aggressive at stopping the tip balloons from appearing. It is a registry hack, so do not try it if you do not know what you are doing.
