You send a message with any IM messenger service and there is a several second delay. During this time your system may even seem to freeze. Here is the fix.

This type of delay is usually caused by problems with your layered service provider (LSP). Spyware attacks and subsequent fixes often cause damage and corruption in your LSP.

This delay in your LSP is causing delays in all of your internet connections; however, quick connections like IMs are usually noticed first. To fix the problem you just need to fix your LSP.

If you have SP2 you can easily fix this yourself with sp2's new winsock netsh commands.

Reset LSP with SP2:

    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type in netsh winsock reset catalog
    4. Hit ENTER or click OK

If you don't have SP2, you can fix this with X-Cleaner. When you run it, select the verify/fix LSP option.
