Optimize Windows 7 for use with Touchscreen enabled devices

Lately, there has been a sudden resurgence back into touchscreen technology and adding of touchscreens to laptops and other devices.  Windows 7 is setup to handle touchscreen input pretty good out of the box, however trying to use the scrollbars and start menu can prove to be a challenge on netbooks with a touchscreen or smaller devices.  This recipe will show you how to use an existing Vista utility, Microsoft Origami Experience 2.0 (free) to optimize the GUI to allow easier navigation using touchscreen inputs.  This barely known but very useful add-on also will give us the Origami add-on and also picture password as an added bonus.  :)

Snow Leopard – Use Quicktime Player to capture web video and audio

One of Snow Leopard’s biggest changes was the built-in Quicktime Player.  The new player allows you to capture video, audio and also screencasts (ie capture your computer’s screen in a movie).  However, by default you are only allowed to use an internal/external mic for audio capturing.  You cannot capture audio from your mac itself (ie sound from a movie playing in your browser or music from a website).  With the help of a free plugin, Soundflower, for Snow Leopard, we can in turn use Quicktime Player’s screen recording abilities as a very free and easy way to capture web video and audio.

Snow Leopard – Remove MobileMe / iSync menu bar icon

Snow Leopard lets one sync his/her own Google contacts and Yahoo contacts to iCal and Address Book.  However, a side effect of this is that you will get a Sync Menu Bar item added. For some this is useful, for me its annoying and removing this menu bar item is not as intuitive as one would think. This recipe will explain how to remove the MobileMe / iSync menu bar item.

Sony Playstation3 and PS3 Slim – How to backup your PS3 harddrive to an external harddrive / thumbdrive before upgrading

The Sony PS3 Phat and PS3 Slim are amazing gaming consoles and a great media center playback device too.  One thing that Sony has done right with the PS3 is that they allowed users to upgrade the harddrive using any normal SATA/SATAII, 2.5″ laptop harddrive.

Logitech Harmony One – Fix repeating buttons on touchscreen / repeating icons for an Activity

Yes,I am one of those techies/geeks that likes to be able to control everything with one remote.  I purchased a Harmony One remote for this sole purpose.  However after setting up my PS3, Windows7 HTPC, HDTV, and a few other devices; I started to run into problems with the Touchscreen commands starting to repeat onto later screens for that particular activity.
